The Feelies' first major-label album, ONLY LIFE was the high point for Feelies Mk. II, a revamped lineup that largely rejected the Devo-ish, wonderfully spastic geek-rock of their debut album for a warmer, more organic sound. Like its predecessor, THE GOOD EARTH, it features murmured vocals and gently insistent Velvet Underground-ish grooves bathed in layers of almost folk-rock-sounding guitars, achieving both urgency and a pastoral quality at the same time.
